What Is FSSAI ?
FSSAI (Food Safety and Standards Authority of India) has been established under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. It ensures that the food products should undergo quality checks thereby curtailing the food adulteration and making sale of sub-standard products. FSSAI licence mainly applicable to the food products like dairy products, spices, grains, vegetables, vegetarian and non vegetarian products, sweets etc.
FSSAI licence are of 3 types which depends upon turnover of entity. Firstly, if turnover is upto 12 Lac then the firm needs to do basic Registration only. Secondly, if turnover is between 12lac to 20crore thenState Licence has to be done. Lastlyif turnover is above 20 crore Central Licence must be done. Business of Export & Import and Interstate Business also requires Central licence.
Every food business operator involved in the manufacturing, processing, storage, distribution, food transport and sale of food products must compulsorily obtain FSSAI Registration or License.It is a 14-digit registration number or a license number which is printed on all the food packages. In FSSAI, entity also requiresfiling a return asper applicable to his business. Merchant exporter require to file quarterly return online, Dairy product need to submit half yearly return manually, Importer or manufacturer yearly return manually, etc.
